HIGHLAND PARK, Ill.—When Elaine Rogers got out of bed this past Friday morning, she had every intention of working out. Her cat, Muffin Top, had other ideas.

“I wear the same workout gear a couple days in a row, and always hang it up to dry afterwards. When I reached for my shirt Friday morning, I was a bit annoyed to see Muffin Top had pulled it off of its hanger and was sitting atop it,” said Elaine. “Sure, I could’ve moved her, but she looked so comfortable, and I didn’t want to disturb her.”

Elaine briefly entertained the idea of getting a different shirt to wear, but that would’ve involved walking back upstairs, which she deemed to be a “Herculean feat” at 5:30 a.m.

“I tried reasoning with Muffin Top, but she wouldn’t budge. So eventually I made some coffee, opened a box of Krispy Kremes, and treated myself to some early-morning binge-watching on Netflix,” said Elaine. “All in all, it wasn’t a bad start to the day.”

Elaine admits this isn’t the first time Muffin Top has prevented her from working out, and noted that her feline friend often “hogs the yoga mat” whenever she attempts pre-workout stretches.

“Whenever that happens, I can’t help but snuggle up next to her and take a quick nap before I have to rush out of the door for work,” said Elaine.

Elaine gets out of bed early enough to work out five days a week, but “between Muffin Top commandeering my workout attire and yoga mat—or the occasional 'poop stuck in fur' disaster—I really only work out one, maybe two, days a week.”

“If it weren’t for Muffin Top, I’d be so fit right now,” concluded Elaine. “You should’ve seen my pre-cat body.”
